War between Ukraine and Russiacase

A video of the execution of an unarmed and captive Ukrainian soldier, whose formal identity is currently uncertain, and the Russian soldier replying “Glory to Ukraine” before he was shot, has caused a stir on social networks. Ukrainians see this as further proof of the brutality of the Russian invaders.

All wars have their symbols, heroes and unforgettable images. For more than twenty-four hours, the silhouette of a thin, tired soldier, who looked like a tree, did not leave the retinas of Ukrainians. His identity is yet to be determined. On Tuesday, the Ukrainian military initially announced and after “preliminary” information, his name was Timofey Mykolaivych Shatura, 40 years old and served in the 30th Mechanized Brigade. According to the military, he took part in heavy fighting near the town of Bakhmoud in eastern Ukraine and has been missing since February 3. But according to Ukrainian journalist Yuri Butusov, it will actually be 42-year-old Oleksandr Matsyevsky, a volunteer from the (northern) city of Nizhny.

The Ukrainian soldier is dead, shot dead by his Russian captors. Before dying, cigarette in mouth, he answered a soldier’s question with vigor. “Slava Ukrainian!” (“Glory to Ukraine!”). With this cry, he signed his death warrant and his execution, filmed and broadcast in its entirety on social networks. The video has not been approved yet.
