The NBA It released the latest list of City Edition jerseys, which teams will wear for the 2022-23 season. This uniform, from the T-shirt to the shorts, usually carries a sort of tie that is themed to the franchise’s hometown.

the athlete Talk to Jesse Alvarez, product manager for Nike men’s basketball, to find out how some of the most iconic City Edition jerseys were designed and the details fans should look for when watching their teams play.

I want to start with Tottenham jersey. Can you share with me the design and inspiration for it?

I think Spurs, as many people remember, have one of the The most famous all-star outfit game Which we did, just in the world of shirt culture. So you can see some obvious nods to that in terms of color and shape only. That was really the focus for that person, to be able to relate that to him. I asked about a few details: I think the “SA” belt buckle and Spur logos on the belt hook were a really cool way to spin outside and add subtle detailing to highlight the All Star outfit he was so synonymous with.

So I realized the color of that when I look at those T-shirts. The pistons Green ones, which is a color I don’t usually associate with the colors of pistons. What happened there?

Detroit has an amazing story. One of the things about that story is Saint Cecilia. So Saint Cecilia is really a place where players used to run and play mini basketball. Thus the green color is inspired by the actual Saint Cecilia. This, along with the iconic detail of the short vamp, you’ll actually see like the stained glass or stained-glass-inspired handle seen on Saint Cecilia, with the 313 logo right in the center. A way to weave those stories together. Saint Cecilia’s motto was “Where the stars are made, they are not born.” So she brings this story together to bring it to life.

Ischia. Charm. Jervin. How the Detroit church gym became the cradle of legends

Have you guys sent people over there to look at the gym and walk in?

Yeah, we’re actually partnering with the team, and so the team was there. They send us pictures, you name it. Anything we need, we should really be able to make it happen in life. As with any uniform, it starts with the team. They know their fan bases are the best. Hence all these inspiration points.

For you, do you have a favorite shirt?

You know, it’s funny, I’ve been telling someone that it’s hard to have a favourite. In particular, they all feel like your children. But I think, right behind you, Chicago. I really love Chicago. I think how municipal Y appears in a number of different ways. And the symbols behind it, such as the unification of a city and how bulls In the center of the Y on the lateral profile. I think that’s a great representation of how the team is in the heart of the city. So Chicago is where I live.

I loved the color pattern on Timberwolves One, but it’s clearly not something wolves are associated with. What is this? What makes that unique?

One of the unique things about the City Edition (the shirts) in general, before I answer your question, is that with each story from an organization, they can take it anywhere they want to go. That’s why Minnesota is known as a creative hotspot for artists of all kinds. This (shirt) is a nod to some creative community. So one of the things that makes this costume unique is that the pattern that you see in the costume, it’s cut differently for each costume. So every uniform is unique, just sort of in a way that makes each of my creations unique in their own way. So that’s really how this story comes to life.

So you guys have a great pattern of all these colors. Every swatch is different from every outfit?

Think of it more from a perspective when you think about how a uniform is made, every piece is cut, so no two pieces are alike. So when they sew these things together, every outfit will be a little different, just like a fingerprint.

I know that you sometimes collaborate not only with teams but with certain individuals in creating T-shirts. Is there a prominent person here helping you get creative, by considering some T-shirts?

Yes, Detroit is a great example. Big Sean is the creative director of the Pistons, so he’s the one who helped bring that to life. Right behind you, you have a KITH with a file New York Knicks. These are the two teams that come first to consider. Just highlight some of the names who also work with organizations to bring their Town Edition uniforms to life.

I was looking at the Hornets. This is the most angry hornet I have ever seen.

It is an aggressive wasp. A really cool story, I think, centered around the mint. So one of the cool things – I’m not sure if you’ll be able to look at it – but the striped lines are actually a nod to mint. As you know, mint is the inspiration for this uniform. The mint-adorned gold lettering harkens back to financial inspiration with the Charlotte mint.

And most recently, I heard you talk about the Heat shirt. Can you walk me through that kind, especially the rope on the side. That seems to be a really cool detail.

So, if you’ve ever played a game in Heat, you’ll see that there’s a real yellow rope surrounding the wire. They use the yellow tube to be inspired by that yellow rope that you will see during the game. Their concept is sort of a chapter two of the mashup they introduced last year.

This year, they flipped the color over to white and then took different components from the previous distinct elements of their identity and mixed those ingredients together to be able to get that custom look. So you will see items from Floridathey hot whiteAnd the vice versa. All those different types of stamps at the time the Heat was formed, all mashed up into a uniform.
