What happened?
A unit of the Alexandroni Brigade, moving on foot Thursday afternoon along the Netzarim Corridor, was ambushed by Hamas terrorists a relatively short distance away. The ambush fired five mortar shells at the soldiers.
The accident occurred minutes before 4 pm on Thursday. The process of evacuating the wounded was complicated, as IDF soldiers opened heavy fire towards the area where the terrorists fired mortar shells. IDF medical teams provided rapid initial treatment and evacuated injured soldiers using 669 helicopters to hospitals in central Israel.
