The exclusion of Archie and Lilibet from the coronation is said to have led to Meghan Markle's decision to stay home

Now that Buckingham Palace has confirmed Meghan Markle will sit at the coronation ceremony in sunny California while her husband, Prince Harry, represents the Sussex family, sources say the Duchess made her decision based on the fact that her children, Archie and Lilibet, did not. Do not play into any of the plans for this important day. Plus, it’s Archie’s fourth birthday, so there’s a little more fun in enjoying something suffocating like a coronation.

A source close to the royal family told Mirror. “The mood in California was that it felt increasingly like it had been put in an impossible situation and there is a fair sense of relief that the situation was resolved after so much speculation and uncertainty.”

The source continued, explaining that while Meghan attended the Queen’s funeral last year, going to something like going to a coronation is very different from paying respects to her grandmother.

“Attending the funeral of the late Queen out of respect for Her Majesty the Queen is one thing, but attending the funeral of the late Queen is quite another,” the source added.

Additional sources claim that Meghan has always been in a tough spot when it comes to appearing at a big King Charles event. On the one hand, there is a layer of royal duty to the whole thing, though it is no longer a royal dignitary; On the other hand, she has been mistreated by the press in the UK and clearly does not feel supported by her in-laws, which is evident in her own movie and Harry’s Netflix special.

One explained, “You’d be very damned if you did, and damned if you didn’t.” “As a mother, she is likely to do the right thing by her young children, which is commendable.”

Royal expert Jenny Bond Sussex’s decision was praisedsaying, “Now that we know he’s coming, I’m so glad he’s coming into what might be the most important day of his father’s life — it was hard not to.”
