Summer Game Fest 2023: Announcing Everything

Summer Game Fest 2023 is a finale, and Geoff Keighley’s show kicked off a full week of demos and updates on new and previously announced games. The show was highlighted by two big PlayStation 5 games: Spider-Man 2 and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. We also got a surprise Prince of Persia game, Mortal Kombat 1, a brand new 2D Sonic game, and so much more. Read on to find out everything announced at this year’s Summer Games Festival.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is coming in early 2024

We got our first real look at the sequel to Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. We’ve seen Cloud, Aerith, and the rest of the group wander across the vast fields of the world outside Midgar. We’ve seen the party riding Chocobos, exploring cities, and discussing Sephiroth’s inevitable return. Plus, this time Red XIII joins the party as a playable fighter. The game is coming to PlayStation 5 early next year.

Spider-Man 2 gets a release date of October 20, 2023

Just days after Sony shared a trailer for Spider-Man 2, Summer Game Fest has revealed the long-awaited PlayStation 5 exclusive release date: October 20th. And I learned Venom wasn’t going to be Eddie Brock.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is coming next year

The Summer Games Festival kicked off with a surprise: a new Prince of Persia game will be released early next year. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is coming to PlayStation 5, PS4 and Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC on January 18, 2024. The game is a new sidecrolling action platformer with a vibrant art style.

Mortal Kombat 1 is getting a bone-crushing game trailer

Mortal Kombat 1 is out later this year, and we’ve got a fresh look at the gameplay for the next entry in the long-running series. We’ve seen the new assistance mechanic in action, where fighters can call on other Mortal Kombat characters for help in the middle of a battle. And we saw a couple of dead people, including a close-up of someone’s ribcage, and someone whose heart was ripped out of their chest. So yeah, it’s Mortal Kombat!

Fortnite Wilds reveals crossover

We got our first look at Fortnite: Chapter 4, Season 3 which is called Fortnite Wilds. The cinematic trailer showed the characters jumping through woods before running into Optimus Prime, revealing the Transformers crossover for the season.

Sonic Superstars is a new classic 2D Sonic game coming this year

Sega has revealed Sonic Superstars, an all-new Sonic game with four-player co-op. Players can choose between Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose and play with up to four players at the same time. The game is a side-scroller, but takes on a 3D art style similar to Classic Sonic’s appearances in Sonic Generations and Sonic Forces. The game will be out on all platforms this fall.

Alan Wake 2 reveals huge gameplay

Alan Wake 2 is coming October 17th, and we got our best look at the game yet at Summer Game Fest. The game features two playable characters – Alan Wake and Saga Anderson – with a 50-50 split between them. Saga is an FBI agent in the Pacific Northwest, while Alan Wake tries to escape from a nightmare dimension.

Like a Dragon: Jaiden is coming in November

Like a Dragon: Jaiden – The Man Who Cleared His Name Officially Has a November 9 Release Date. The game is a spin-off in the long-running series Like Dragon (formerly Yakuza), and it marks the return of protagonist Kazuma Kiryu.

Exposing Toxic Commandos by John Carpenter

Saber Interactive, Focus Entertainment and John Carpenter have unveiled John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, a new first-person shooter that’s an ode to ’80s action and horror. The reveal trailer revealed well-equipped military vehicles and plenty of weapons to take on overwhelming hordes of undead enemies. The game is coming to Xbox Series X | S, PS5 and PC next year.

SandLand is a new action game from Akira Toriyama and Bandai Namco

We got our first look at SandLand, a new Bandai Namco game coming to PlayStation 5, PS4 and Xbox Series X | S and PC. The game features Akira Toriyama’s signature art style, which is instantly comparable to the likes of Dragon Ball and Dragon Quest. The rest of the game looks very different from these two features, featuring tank combat and melees across the game’s vast desert. There is no release date for this game yet.

Baldur’s Gate 3 introduces Jason Isaacs as the main villain

Jason Isaacs – best known for playing Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter series and Captain Hook in 2003’s Peter Pan – joins Baldur’s Gate 3 as the main villain. The actor has appeared in video games before, including Marvel’s Midnight Suns and The Last Worker.

Twisted Metal debuts on Peacock on July 27

Will Arnett stopped by at Summer Game Fest to catch a glimpse of Peacock’s Twisted Metal series, which debuted on Peacock July 27. The clip showed Arnett’s Sweet Teeth in a fight with John Doe’s Anthony Mackie.

Marvel Snap getting a new competitive mode

Marvel Snap will soon be introducing Conquest Mode, a new competitive mode coming to Card Fighter on June 13th. The mode will add a single elimination tournament to the game, with the tournament taking place over the course of each season.

New trailer for Season 4 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

We’ve taken a fresh look at the upcoming season of Modern Warfare 2, which launches on June 14th. The trailer showed levels inspired by a castle, a soccer field, and an abandoned zoo.

Exile 2 gameplay track

We got a fresh look at Path of Exile 2, the upcoming isometric action RPG. The snippet of the game we got was pretty short, showing a sorceress character tearing through monsters with electric magic. The end of the trailer teased that we’ll find out more on July 28th.

Exoprimal is getting a Street Fighter 6 crossover

Capcom pulled the bait and switched on us with this one, as Geoff Keighley originally introduced it as a follow-up ad to Street Fighter 2. Instead, it turns out to be Capcom Collab 1 for Exoprimal, in which robot Mecha Ryu faces off against Exoprimal dinosaurs. Exoprimal launches July 14th, with Street Fighter 6 co-op starting this fall.

Lies of P is getting a new demo and release date

Pinocchio Slike Lies of P is now coming September 19, which is a slight delay from its previous August date. However, players can play a game demo featuring the first two chapters of the game, which includes three boss fights and multiple locations to explore.

Netflix shares The Witcher Season 3 trailer

Season 3 of The Witcher marks Henry Cavill’s final season as Geralt of Rivia, and we’ve got a look at the first full trailer for the upcoming season. Ciri takes center stage in Season 3, as Geralt and Yennefer work to protect her. We’ve seen some great swordplay from Henry Cavill, too.

Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 reveals co-op gameplay

Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 will feature three-player co-op throughout the campaign. We got a new trailer for the game that showed returning protagonist Titus joined by two fellow Space Marines to tear apart the Tyranid hordes. The game comes to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S and PC sometime this winter.

Nicolas Cage is close to death by daylight

Summer Game Fest audiences burst into laughter with this stunning reveal of the crossover, as we learned that Nicolas Cage is coming to Dead By Daylight. The notorious actor also appeared on stage to chat. Cage described Dead By Daylight as an opportunity for him to expand, as he had never been involved in the video game industry before. Nic Cage’s chapter in Dead By Daylight comes July 25th.

Yes, a Grace Your Own sequel has been announced

We’ve got the reveal of Yes, Your Grace: Snowfall, the sequel to the 2020 indie game from Brave at Night and No More Robots. The original was about making choices about how you rule your kingdom, and the sequel looks to take the idea and expand on it with a new winter setting. The game is coming sometime next year.

Witchfire comes to early access in September

The next trailer shown was for Witchfire, from the creators of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Painkiller, and Bulletstorm. We saw a very scary forest full of fog and skeletons, before moving on to this first person shooter game. We saw the player use crossbow, gun, fight and more in the game excerpt. Witchfire begins in Early Access on September 20th.

2 remaining release date revealed

Gunfire Games’ Remnant 2 will be released next month, on July 25th. The new trailer showed off the locations players will be visiting, including Narude, a new dark plane. Remnant 2 is a sequel to the game referred to as “Dark Souls with gun”, Remnant 2 comes with Procedurally generated levels and stories.

Immortals of Aveum is getting an extended gameplay trailer

We got an extended look at Immortals of Aveum, the magical first-person shooter from Ascendant Studios and Electronic Arts.

Under the waves gets August release date

We’ve got a new trailer for Under the Waves, a new game with an underwater environment from Parallel Studio. The gameplay offered is a mixture of submarine driving and diving with an unsettling atmosphere. The game will be released on August 29.

Honkai Star Rail is getting a PS5 release window

Honkai Star Rail – the game from Genshin Impact developer Mihoyo – just got a new trailer showcasing new characters in the RPG. We also got a release window for the PlayStation 5 version, as we now know it’s coming in Q4 2023.

Star Trek Infinite commercial

We’ve got a teaser trailer for Star Trek Infinite, a new game set in the universe of the classic sci-fi franchise. Little was shown in the trailer, but we do know the full reveal is coming on June 16th.

Xbox and Porsche partner in new designs

In celebration of Porsche’s 75th anniversary, the company has partnered with Xbox for a batch of new Porsche-themed Xbox Series X consoles. It’s not for sale, but you can enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win one.
