At the end of the crisis cell held in the province this Wednesday afternoon, Martinique was placed on Hurricane Orange alert.
The Brett event qualified as a strong tropical storm. Its path will mainly affect the center and south of the island. Its characteristics are as follows:
- Average wind speed will be 70 to 80 kmph in the south and 60 to 70 kmph in the north. The storms could reach an average speed of 100 to 120 kmph and 150 kmph at some places.
- Waves can reach an average of 3 to 4 meters, up to 5 meters on the coast and 6 meters in the canals.
- Heavy rain is expected with an average total rainfall of 100 to 150 mm.
City halls and operational services should keep their crisis management systems on active alert.
The first Hurricane Hunter reconnaissance flight revealed that Tropical Storm Brett had strengthened slightly. Strong winds and heavy rain are expected in parts of the Lesser Antilles from Thursday.
