  • Sarah Ferguson told The Telegraph that she doesn’t “really know” and hasn’t “really met” Meghan Markle.
  • It comes after Meghan said Ferguson, the ex-wife of Prince Andrew, taught her how to bow.
  • Meghan said Ferguson taught her the official greeting before she first met the Queen.

Sarah Ferguson has said she hasn’t “really met” Meghan Markle, although the Duchess of Sussex says Ferguson taught her how to engage with the Queen.

In a recent interview with The telegraphFerguson, 63, said she does not have a close relationship with Meghan, although the couple have common relatives. Ferguson is the ex-wife of Prince Andrew and mother to Prince Harry’s cousins, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice.

“I don’t really know Meghan. I haven’t really met her,” said Ferguson, who is often referred to by her nickname Fergie. She went on to say that she spoke to her at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022 and thought she “looks absolutely beautiful”.

Her comments come after Meghan, 41, said repeatedly that Ferguson was one of the first of Harry’s relatives she met.

During her 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan recalled that Ferguson taught her how to deal with difficult moments before she first met the Queen in 2016.

“I learned that very quickly,” she said, laughing. “Right in front of the house, we just rehearsed and then walked in. I met her and, apparently, I did a very deep job.”

Meghan retold the tale in the second episode of her Netflix Harry and Meghan documentary series, which was released in December.

“I just thought it was a joke,” she said, explaining that she didn’t think Harry was serious when he asked if she knew how to degrade.

“It was just so intense,” Meghan added. And when I left, Eugenie, Jack and Fergie said ‘You did great! “

When asked if Meghan had “harmed” the royal family, Ferguson did not give The Telegraph a direct answer but said the Duchess of Sussex had influenced Harry in a positive way.

“It’s absolutely out of my place to answer that,” said Ferguson. “She made Harry very happy, which is very nice. Honestly, he’s very happy with her. She really loves him. And I think that’s lovely – and that Diana would be proud of him and her wonderful grandchildren.”

Representatives for the Duchess of Sussex did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider.
