Netflix edited a joke about Will Smith from Chris Rock: Selective Fury after Rock misses her during his live show.

During a series of jokes about Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith at the end of the Rock Show on March 4 — the first-ever global livestreamed event — the comedian cracked a joke of his own as he recalled a conversation he allegedly had with Smith while hosting the 2016 Academy Awards.

“Years ago, his wife said I should quit the Oscars, and I shouldn’t host” because her husband wasn’t nominated for her. ReleaseBiggest piece of shit ever! Rock told the Baltimore crowd, before quickly admitting his mistake. “No, no ReleaseI spoiled the joke.”

The joke was supposed to refer to Smith’s 2015 sports drama concussionwhich was based on the 2009 NFL show Jane Marie Laskas and CTE”Brain gamePosted by GQ. For those Netflix subscribers who watched the reboot version currently airing, this part of the live special has been edited out.

After the misstep, Rock continued to accurately deliver the joke. “I started this crap. She said I, a grown man, should quit his job because my husband wasn’t nominated concussion,'” He said.

The example Rock cited occurred the same year that Pinkett Smith boycotted the ceremony amid the #OscarsSoWhite movement, which focused on the Film Academy’s history of racial exclusion among its nominees and winners’ lists.

Smith took to the Oscars 2022 stage last March and slapped Rock after he made an unscripted joke about Pinkett Smith’s bald hairstyle, which she wore as a result of alopecia, an immune-related condition. The joke came after a rocker made his monologue while hosting the 2016 show, in which he said, “Jada boycotting the Oscars is like boycotting Rihanna’s pants. I wasn’t invited.”
