William Byron won’t get the starting position he expected at Go Bowling on Sunday at the Glen Race.
According to Bob Bokras of FOX Sports, officials found an electrical problem with Byron’s #24 car during a pre-race check. It will move backwards to make unapproved modifications.
Byron was originally scheduled to start fourth at the Watkins Glen International.
Fans were disappointed to learn the news.
The Chevrolet driver finished 10th in the Cup Series standings before the penultimate race of the regular season. Although he ranks 12th in total points, wins in Atlanta and Martinsville earlier this year would secure his place in the playoff.
However, Byron has not finished higher than ninth – the only place in the top 10 – in the last 17 races since his victory on April 9. Fourth place initially led to an 11th place finish at Richmond Raceway last Sunday.
The race has a green flag at 3:19PM EST, but Lightning At Watkins Glen is currently suspending the start.
