Monty Williams of the Phoenix Suns has been voted Coach of the Year by the Coaches Association for the second year in a row

Phoenix Suns coach Monty Williams was named National Basketball Coaches Coach of the Year for the second time in a row.

The award, named in honor of the late NBCA CEO Michael H. Goldberg, is based on votes from 30 coaches in the league.

The league will announce the winner of the NBA’s Coach of the Year award later in the playoffs – an award based on media voting.

The Suns set a franchise record with a 64-18 regular season record and would be the top seed in the NBA playoffs. Under Williams, Phoenix became the first team to exceed their total wins by at least 11 games in three consecutive years.

The sources said that among the other coaches who received votes: Willie Green of New Orleans, Taylor Jenkins of New Orleans, Ty Lou Clippers, Greg Popovich of San Antonio and Eric Spoelstra of Miami.

Williams oversaw the development of machine-like accuracy with these pines during his three years as a coach. Phoenix joined the 1969-1970 New York Knicks as the only team to finish a game with a better road win percentage than every other team’s home win percentage in a single season, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.

Also, the Suns were 47-0 this season when they were up front after three quarters – the best of the shooting era. The only two teams that were undefeated in this scenario in the regular season included both LeBron James — Cleveland Cavaliers 2017-2018 and 2019-2020 Los Angeles Lakers, according to ESPN stats and information.

Among the Suns’ dominance this season: an 18-game winning streak and three separate winning streaks from more than nine games in a season in which the rest of the NBA had four combined streaks of nine or more wins.

Sun has ranked in the top five in offensive and defensive proficiency this season, and has gone 33-9 in holding time games — the best record in such situations in the NBA since the 2015-2016 Golden State Warriors, according to stats and information. Research.
