The Los Angeles Rams, quarterback Matthew Stafford And his wife, Kelly, said Thursday they would pay a photographer’s medical bills and replace her cameras after she fell off the podium at the team’s celebration on Wednesday.
Kelly Smiley, NFL, NBA and NHL photo editor and freelance photographer, said Thursday on Twitter that she fractured her spine in the fall, which happened to Matthew and Kelly Stafford, after falling backwards on stage. Plus, all of her cameras were broken, she tweeted.
In a video circulating on social media, Stafford appeared to notice Smiley’s fall but turned away. With that, Kelly Stafford rushed to the edge of the podium to check on Smiley. Matthew Stafford was widely criticized on social media for his reaction to the video.
“We have been in contact with Kelly Smiley since yesterday’s incident and are sorry for what happened,” the Rams and Staffords family said in a joint statement. “As we said to Kelly, we will cover all of her hospital bills and replace her cameras. We wish her a speedy recovery.”
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Smiley and has generated more than $42,000 in donations as of Thursday afternoon.
