Russia has announced that its forces have captured a village in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region. The Russian Defense Ministry said its forces had “liberated the village of Shogil”, about 30 km northwest of Donetsk, the capital of the region of the same name, which Moscow said had been annexed since September 2022.
Russian forces have been entrenched for months. Kyiv believes the worst fighting on the frontline is currently taking place in the Donetsk region.
