In a video broadcast on social networks this Saturday, he answers the questions of Internet users about Europe, Emmanuel Macron in particular was questioned about the risk of France entering the war. “No, we are not going to war, I want to assure you here,” says the Head of State, who believes he has “done everything” since coming to power to “ensure we have peace”.
“Being a force for peace does not mean being weak,” he continued, calling the Russian invasion of Ukraine a “huge challenge” for the EU. “We can prevent Russia from continuing to advance, because the sovereignty and territorial integrity of this country is obviously at stake in Ukraine, but the rule of law is also at stake, meaning our common rules and we allow this to happen in Ukraine, it’s the law of the strong, we cannot be safe.”
“We are playing a lot with our future and our security in Ukraine,” the president added. “That’s why I said: we still have to help, and we will do it in the coming weeks, we’ll give the Ukrainians more equipment. But we have to say: at some point, if the Russians go too far, we all have to be Europeans. Ready to stop them (…) So no, I believe we don’t have to go to war, France is not a war power, but yes, if we want peace, we must arm ourselves and sometimes be distrustful of our enemies: ‘If you threaten my interests, my own security, I will not interfere reject”
