Mexico – You can't do wrong for a wedding. In Mexico, around 100 guests at a lavish wedding suffered food poisoning, believed to be caused by mushrooms.
The reception, held in the southern Mexican city of Cuernavaca, turned into a disaster when dozens of guests fell ill shortly after the four-course meal. Daily Mail And Metro.
The meal, which came from an outside catering company, was served after the wedding ceremony.
Victims complained of stomach cramps, dizziness, vomiting and diarrhea. Videos on social media showed guests sitting or crouching, sweating, waiting for an ambulance to arrive.
Wild mushrooms
Other scenes show several wedding attendees being loaded into ambulances and a young woman later lying in a hospital bed.
Witnesses said they suspected the poisoning was caused by wild mushrooms served on the menu alongside goat cheese and tomato coulis. The cause of the poisoning is under investigation.
In Mexico, a similar incident occurred in June 2023, when a bride and groom and their 109 guests became ill, suffering from stomach pains, diarrhea and vomiting after a reception in Tepotzotlan, north of Mexico City. At least 12 people were taken to area hospitals, while 64 were treated at the village hall.
