Grey’s Anatomy star Caterina Scorsone has revealed that she and her three children survived a house fire that took the lives of their four pets.
Scorsone, 41, who portrays Amelia Shepherd in the long-running medical drama, posted a bunch of photos of Instagram On Monday, the first one shows the damage to the living area containing the fireplace.
Others capture sweet moments between Scorsone and her animals, which seem to include three cats and a dog.
“Two months ago my house burned down,” Scorsone said in the lengthy commentary. “While getting my kids ready for bed and finishing their bath time, smoke started seeping through the grout around the bathtub. When I looked down the hallway, a river of thick black smoke had already formed and was filling the house.”

“One thing about fires: They happen fast. I had about two minutes to get my three kids out of the house, and we got away with less than a shoe on our feet. But we got out. And for that I’m forever grateful.”
“Heartbreakingly, we lost all 4 of our pets. We are still going through this loss, but we are lucky to have loved them at all.”
Scorsone continued her “love letter” to thank the community of people who helped her when the devastation struck, including her neighbor, parents at her children’s school, firefighters, and detectives, as well as her “friends” on “Grey’s Anatomy” and Shonda Rhimes’ production company, Shondaland, creator of the series. .
“What we’ve learned is that the only thing that matters is the people (and beings) you love. The only thing that matters is community. We wouldn’t be here without her and we’re so grateful. Thank you.”
Scorsone concluded, “Here are some images to honor the space we once called home, to say goodbye to the animals that loved us so well, and to celebrate that we have the one thing we really need: each other.”
