Google’s Find My Devices network acquires Chipolo location trackers

Date:

Google’s newly expanded Find My Device platform has two new trackers coming from Chipolo: the One Point Key Finder and the Card Point Wallet Finder. While these trackers are for Google’s location tracking service, Chipolo also offers One Spot and Card Spot trackers similar to Apple’s Find My service.

The names here are somewhat self-explanatory. The new One Point wallet finder looks like a thick credit card that you slide into your wallet or purse, while the key finder is a puck-shaped keyring. The latter is small enough to use for other circumstances, like putting tabs on your luggage, your bike, or even a pet’s collar.

The Card Point tracker doesn’t look very bulky compared to a standard credit card, so it shouldn’t take up space in your wallet.

The Chipolo One Point has a one-year battery life and a replaceable battery. It’s also the louder of the two, coming in at 120dB. Chipolo Card Point tracking at 105 dB and a two-year non-replaceable battery—the card can be recycled and replaced (with a new one at 50 percent off) when it reaches the end of its life through Chipolo’s renewal programme.

Chipolo Point trackers are exclusive to the Google Find My Devices platform.

Both point trackers have a location range of 60 meters (about 200 feet), support Android’s Fast Pair feature, and have an IPX5 water resistance rating — meaning they’ll continue to work when caught in heavy rain but not submerged. You will need to connect the point trackers to an Android device running at least Android 9 with Google Play Services installed.

Pre-orders are Available now, with delivery expected in “the second half of July 2023.” Chipolo One Point will set you back $28 for one, or $79 for a pack of four. Chipolo Card Point is $35, or $112 for four (plus the cost of replacement after a few years). There’s also a bundle with a Card Point tracker and two One Point trackers available for $77.

Correction: May 11th, 6.50am ET: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that the Chipolo Point package contained one of each tracker. The package actually contains two One Point trackers and one Card Point tracker. We are sorry for this error.
