Happy Friday, Guardians! Welcome back to one of our favorite sections on Bungie.net, this week’s community focus! This week we’re talking to a creator who has a great job on Rad Day, Kojai!
Hi Kogai! Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! So, let’s start with a little background. Who are you, what are your consciences, and where are you from?
Hi, my name is Kujay (he/he). I’m an aircraft designer by day and fate Content Creator by Night! I grew up in a small town in eastern Kansas before I eventually moved to Southern California after college.
Wait, the aircraft designer? Yes, we’ll have to touch on that in a moment. But first, what drove you to create games and content?
I started playing at a very young age, when I was only four years old. I had just started going to preschool, and there was a Super Nintendo that all the kids could play with. It was the first game I ever played Yoshi Island (It’s still a great game to this day!) And oh my god, I was instantly hooked! Fast forward about 20 years, and after moving to SoCal, I found myself having a lot more free time than I used to during school (aeronautical engineering courses are no joke!). Then, shortly after Rise of Iron launched, one of my streaming friends started urging me to try streaming for myself. After pushing it away for a few months, I finally gave up and bought a PS4 webcam. I’ve found that live streaming is so much fun (something I’m really good at), that I’ve been doing it for nearly six years now!
This kind of sounds like my daycare. ๐ Well, the big question here – how do you balance both a full-time job and content creation?
Over the years, it has been difficult to balance my career with the content creation aspect of my life. In the early years, I used to do a lot of streaming, getting streams every Friday through Monday (usually involving a lot of Trials of Osiris help!). However, as the years went by and my day job responsibilities began to increase, I began to reduce the amount of content I was pushing out. I’ve started focusing more on YouTube in the last couple of years, because it’s something I can do “fragmented”, rather than turn the camera on for a live stream. And on the Twitch side of the house, I’m mostly a “weekend warrior” now, with only streams on Saturdays and Sundays. It has been difficult to juggle the two sides of my life, but also rewarding. How many people design planes during the week, and then come home to watch a successful broadcast and YouTube channel on the weekends? It’s something I don’t take for granted!
Oh my gosh, this sounds like a wild ride, and you seem to have done a great job keeping it up. So, you mentioned Yoshi Island, but how did you find that fate?
So, interestingly, I took a long break from playing when fate The call came. Having dropped out of Skyrim in my last year of high school, I didn’t play much at all during my freshman years or sophomore year of college. However, I was pulled back by the PS4 remaster of The Last of Us (an amazing game by the way!), which I didn’t get the chance to play when it originally launched. And then, as if through “destiny” (wink wink), a few days after finishing the last of usI just got an email from Sony inviting me to play the next game fate alpha. You are always more than Call of duty I grew up, but many of my childhood friends were formidable Hello fans. When I asked them about Bungie’s next project with fatethey all encouraged me to try it, describing the game as a combination of Call of dutyAnd the Helloand “space Skyrim. “I decided to try the Alpha shortly thereafter, and I got it right away. Playing with firearms was the best I’ve ever tried. Now, over eight years later, I’m still a helpless addict to it fate Because I was the first time I landed at Cosmodrome.
One day a player, would love to see him! What kind of content do you want to focus on while broadcasting or creating videos?
I like to focus on the end game content inside fate, focusing more on the PvP aspect, whether it’s the Osiris Experiments or Iron Banner. I also love GM Nightfalls and raids, and I especially enjoy the raid experiences on the first day with my group!
that’s awesome! Endgame content can be very challenging, so having creators like you to help teach and take care of others is really nice. For these new players, what’s one thing you wish you knew before you started, or at least in the beginning fate a trip?
Honestly, I wish someone had told me exactly how I would be accommodated in fate The universe and the broader Bungie community. How am I still playing the same game after eight years?! Ha-ha-ha, just kidding =). But in all seriousness, I wish I knew how important it was to find a strong group of people to play with fate with. I played solo for a long period of time during Vanilla D1 before finding my way to LFG sites (looking for a group). If the magic of the OG Vault of Glass doesn’t capture me, there’s a good chance I might stop playing fate During those early days. The game is more fun when you have friends to jump into harder content while bouncing off builds and ideas. For this reason, I am incredibly excited to have Guardian Ranks and Fireteam Finder come into the game fate 2 next year. I think these will serve as motivators for thousands of players to start making their own friend groups and unlock the true ‘final game’ fate.
Heck yes! With your focus on end-game content, do you have any advice for players looking to improve their skills as a player?
If you are someone who wants to dive deeper into end-game experiences fate And improving your skills, the best thing you can do is connect with other players and start building a group of friends that you can play with fate with. While fate Played solo, the game’s full potential is realized when you have a steady group of people to count on, whether in casual PvE environments or deep in the trenches of Trials. Teamwork really makes the dream work, and you’ll become a better player when teaming up with other like-minded players over time.
Well, it’s time to ask, what is your main character and favorite subclass?
I’m probably drawing a lot of rage here, but Hunter is my main character, and I’ve been hopelessly addicted to Stompees for five years now. Back in Modern Warfare 2, my favorite way to play FPS games has always been about speed, speed, and more speed! To that end, I absolutely love the Arc 3.0 Hunter. The Speed โโBooster is just a *chef’s kiss* and Gathering Storm might be the coolest super in the game right now. I used to use my main Arcstrider from seasons 2 through 8 so bringing home my old kid with Arc 3.0 was great!
Yes, playing fast in video games is always fun! ๐ What kind of overall look does your channel maintain?
My channel tends to walk the line between entertainment and educational. In a moment, we’ll go deeper into the lore for destiny universe and start to speculate about the upcoming future stories. Then the next day, something completely ridiculous will happen in a Crucible match (at the expense of my opponent or myself, both happen a lot!). We’ll often talk about the builds or the state of the game as a whole, keeping things very nice with plenty of laughs along the way. Just like the balance between my work life and content creation, my channel thrives in its duality of education and entertainment.
Entertaining and educational while keeping it light? It kind of looks like a place to me!
Well, it’s time to end our interview, but I wanted to ask because you’ve been really inspired so far in our conversation. What do you want to make sure every New Light knows when they join the Guardian ranks?
With the current New Light experience, it can feel overwhelming once you finish your introduction at the Cosmodrome. You are summoned to Towe, and you are introduced to task after task after task. My advice is to pick just one of these tasks and stick to it alone. By the time you’re done with the first mission, there’s a good chance you’ll get to try out some new weapons, increase your power a bit, and, in general, have a feel of the ring in the game. fate. And once most people get this far, the gameplay alone is usually enough to get them addicted!
For more specific tips, start 1000% using the Destiny Item Manager for a dramatically improved inventory experience. That’s it, and be sure to check in with your Ada-1 every day for those cute and adorable combat mods!
And finally, where can people find you?
Stay cunning, guardians!
