Dwayne Johnson, 50, has announced that he will reprise his role as Maui in the live-action version of Disney’s smash hit Moana.
The wrestler turned actor took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a behind-the-scenes video of him enjoying quality family time in Hawaii with his wife Lauren Hashian and their two daughters, five-year-old Tiana and seven-year-old Jasmine.
Johnson – his eldest daughter made her WWE debut over the weekend – Showing his softer side playing in the sand while his girls hug him, swing from his neck, and sing along to Moana’s hit You’re Welcome.
During the video, he says, “I’ve had the real honor and privilege of not only being here in the Hawaiian Islands, where I did so much of my upbringing but more importantly, the privilege of having my family with me.”
He added, ‘You know, I always like to say, ‘If everything is taken away today, then what you just tried’ [daughter Jasmine] And her sister Tia was pretty, man.
The Red Bulletin star captioned the video, “Our #Moana announcement had a very special day. My family and I felt the mana, the power of the ocean, and the spirit of our ancestors.
Thank you all so much for the love, excitement and support. Singing, dancing and culture. Maui is the role of a lifetime and I’ll give it my all,” Johnson wrote.
The Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle The Jungle star shared a short video of herself on the beach wearing a bodysuit jeans and a white short-sleeved button-down shirt while his little girls wore sandals reminiscent of Moana’s dresses.
The Fast and Furious actor shared that he got his inspiration from his late grandfather, Supreme Commander Peter Maivia.
Johnson revealed diverseWe found a lot of inspiration for Maui in the mana and presence of my late grandfather, the legendary Supreme Commander Peter Maivia.
He would walk into the room and light it up – the energy, the tattoos, the hair, the body. [sings with daughters] When you stare at a demigod, “Thank you.” Sorry, I’m busy at the moment.
He concluded, “We’re going to go to the ocean. Yeah. Oh look at the love I have. Is Abi Maui? No! You guys want ice cream? Yeah! So Abi Maui.”
You guys see – perfect timing with the sun rising – just how deep the story goes for me, because somehow, when I bring Maui to life, I do so in the spirit of my grandfather. So it’s still very early in the process. There is a lot of work to be done.
But until then, there’s one more thing I need to start this journey off right. Girls want to have that special thing that daddy needs? [Bring out his staff] Wow, you guys are my dad’s daughters. you are very strong. Thank you very much guys.
Johnson also has another daughter, Simone Johnson, 21, whom he shares with ex-wife Dany Garcia.
Johnson’s eldest daughter has followed in her father’s footsteps as a professional wrestler working under the name Ava Ren.
On Saturday, she became the first fourth-generation wrestler in WWE history with her debut at NXT Stand and Deliver.
The 21-year-old daughter of “The Rock” made her intro bow as part of an eight-man tag team match between Chase University and the stable she belongs to, The Schism.
The match lasted just over 11 minutes, and Ren had a few forays into the action, but her team suffered a loss in their debut, with Chase University winning.
Ren’s lineage in the business traces back to The Rock, her grandfather Rocky Johnson and great-grandfather Peter Maivia.
Rain joined WWE in February 2020, but her progression to television was hampered by a severe knee injury.
However, Shawn Michaels told SportsMail that the company has high hopes for Raine, and that she is doing well at their developmental coaching base in Orlando, Florida.
