Chargers vs. Chiefs score, takeaway: Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs gather past Chargers; Justin Herbert injured

There has been a lot of talk about who could overtake the Kansas City Chiefs in a fresh look from West Asia. The division’s other three teams made big additions to their off-season roster, but two weeks later, the Chiefs are still the kings of the best league in football. Thursday night, Patrick Mahomes & Co. dropped the Los Angeles Chargers 27-24.

Mahomes and Justin Herbert both started slow, but eventually found their respective rhythms. Mahomes built on his impressive performance in the first week, completing 24 of 35 passes for 235 yards, two hits, and no interceptions. On the other hand, Herbert completed 33 of 48 passes for 334 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Mike Williams got up to idle Keenan Allen in a big way, getting eight passes for 113 yards and one touchdown. In the end, that wasn’t enough.

The Chiefs made the interesting decision to kick a field goal on the Chargers’ 1-yard line to start the fourth quarter, which tied the game at 17 each. Fans did not question that decision for long, as rookie Jaylen Watson picked Herbert at the 1-yard line on the next drive, and returned him 99 yards the other way to top the Chiefs’ first game.

Herbert suffered a chest/rib injury that landed him in play while trying to organize a comeback. On his way back, he didn’t seem at all comfortable. He was still leading nine games, a 73-yard run that ended with a touchdown pass to fourth-placed Josh Palmer and the goal, but L.A. couldn’t recover the kick on the side.

Why did the presidents win?

The Chiefs didn’t start their strength, but they couldn’t hold back much even when they were struggling. In the first half, it seemed like the chargers should be more advanced, but they did a good job staying in them. Momentum shifted in the second half with 20 missed points from the Chiefs taking them from a 14-7 loss to a 27-14 lead.

The Chiefs were fortunate in some close interceptions by the Chargers, specifically Asante Samuel Jr. , which did not result in takeaway. They almost faltered at the goal line as well, with the ball slipping out of Travis Kelsey’s hands after a powerful hit by Derwin James, but it was ruled a contact.

If any of these close metamorphoses end up in actual bosses, that could be a different story.

Speaking of turnovers, it was employee turnover that ultimately made the difference. The Chargers were knocking on the end zone door, but the 99-yard 6 pick from Chiefs’ Jaylen Watson ended up giving Kansas City its first lead in the game. The other three points sealed the deal and the shipper ran out of time to catch up.

Why did you lose your chargers

The Chargers have been the lead for the majority of the game, but unfortunately for them and their fans, it’s not the one to top bone of time.

Although they came out strong and impressive in the first half, they never really advanced far enough. When it comes to playing the Mahomes and the Chiefs, close progression is as good as no leader, because they are a team that knows how to come back.

Charger errors, such as suffering in third down, gave Mahomes and Co a good field position after near safety in the second half, and the 6 pick was the difference makers.

The second half was a different story than the first, with the Chiefs scrambled up front while the Chargers failed to put together a scoring drive. The Chargers scored a touchdown early in the third quarter and didn’t score again until it was too late.

Mahomes didn’t outsmart Herbert hard and held his own as the pressure mounted, but in a match between two elite teams, sometimes a single interception makes all the teams up.

turning point

The Chiefs’ second touchdown of the day was Mahomes’ Justin Watson pass for 41 yards and kicked 20 unanswered. Until then, the charger was in control and it seemed like the bosses needed a spark and that was just a spark to get them started. The next drop was also from Watson – Jaylen Watson – who gave the Pick 6 Chiefs the lead forever.

play the game

The undeniable game was Jaylen Watson’s 99-yard 6 pick. According to Next Gen Stats“The Chiefs’ winning probability jumped from 31% to 85% as a result of Herbert’s Watson 6 pick, up 54%, the largest swing in the winning probability of a Pick 6 over the past three seasons.”

Take a look at the long back to the objection:
