Temperatures in Clarkston reached 90 degrees Tuesday, nearly 10 degrees above average, according to CNN meteorologist Robert Shackleford.
“He just started a song that was about joy and love,” Alyssa Zee, one of the music attendees, told CNN. “He called for healing to the world. During that song he collapsed.”
In videos recorded by fans, the 74-year-old musician sits on the corner of the stage and stops playing the guitar.
When the medical staff came to Santana, the theater staff lifted a black cloth of cloth to block the view of the stage. When he was removed from the stage, fans are heard in a video cheering for the musician. Zee said the artist waved to fans as he was taken off stage.
“Carlos has been moved to the McLaren Clarkston Emergency Department for observation and is fine,” reads the statement on his Facebook page.
“I forgot to eat and drink water so I became dehydrated and passed out,” he wrote.
The musician was scheduled to perform with Earth, Wind and Fire on Wednesday evening in Pennsylvania, but the concert was postponed, according to the statement.
Santana performed on Monday as part of CNN’s “4th in America” concert.
