This Wednesday, a truck carrying five million bees was involved in a road accident in Canada. Motorists were forced to drive with their windows down as the insects were released into the wild. To deal with the situation, police and beekeepers were called to the spot.
“We don’t know exactly how or what happened, but sometimes boxes containing bees and their swarms slipped off the trailer and spilled all over the road (…). “Swarms of bees were flying everywhere,” a regional police official told CBC News.
Most of the insects were recovered
According to Radio-Canada Ontario, most of the insects were rescued and returned to their colonies. However, tens of thousands of bees still exist in the wild.
“It’s important for people to understand that bees are very gentle and will not attack humans unless they are disturbed,” beekeeper Luke Peters told local media.
