Caitlyn Jenner’s mother, Esther Jenner, passed away on Thursday. She was 96 years old.
“I am so sad to announce that my mother passed away peacefully yesterday morning,” Caitlin said He captioned an Instagram post Friday.
“Losing a mother is unique in the sense that she was the only person who loved me in my entire life,” the Olympian, 73, continued.
“I will miss her terribly. She was just a few weeks shy of 97 and lived a full life. Love you mom.”
The heartfelt post featured a throwback photo of Caitlin, Esther, and an unidentified woman celebrating the mom’s 95th birthday while crowding around digital balloons.
Two other photos in the circular post showed Esther smiling warmly as she sat at the dinner table.
People flooded the comments section with condolences, including “Real Housewives of New Jersey” alum Siggy Flicker, who wrote, “So sorry for your loss. May your mother rest in peace 🙏.”
“Sorry for your loss,” Erin Elmore, who competed on the third season of “The Apprentice,” tweeted.
Esther, who appears on “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” and “I Am Cait,” suffered a number of health setbacks in her later years, including breaking both hips in the fall of 2015 when she was 89 years old.
“Visiting my mom and she’s doing well after breaking both hips. It’s been mobile — it’s tough,” Caitlin captioned an Instagram post at the time.

Esther was a supporter of Caitlyn’s transition earlier that year, and she shared with Radar Online how proud she is of the former decathlon.
“I’ve never been so proud of Bruce because he is, himself as a father, as an Olympian, and an amazing public speaker,” said Esther, using the name Caitlin, using the past pronouns. “He instills enthusiasm in people. He is talented.
“I am more proud of him now than when he stood on that podium and put the gold medal around his neck. He deserves all the respect.”
Esther had four children with her husband, William Jenner, before his death in 2000: Caitlyn, Pam Mettler, Lisa Jenner, and Burt Jenner, the latter of whom was killed in a car crash in 1976.
