The San Jose Police Department said the victim was taken Monday to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police gave few details, other than saying the accident occurred near the intersection of the Monterey Highway and Bailey Street. CNN requested a police report but did not receive a report on Tuesday afternoon.
San Jose police said, “The motive and circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under investigation.”
“Our office has not yet received the police report for review, and therefore has no information on Mr. Velasquez. No charges have been filed at this time,” said Delaney Murray of the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.
The prison entry indicated that no bail had been set, and that a court session was possible on Wednesday.
The mixed martial arts professional has 12 wins by knockout, two by decision and two defensive titles, according to his UFC profile. Velasquez had three losses.
