Diablo 4 came out just over a week ago, and developer Blizzard has revealed its most-played category.
According to Diablo Head of Development Rod Ferguson, the most played class in Diablo 4 is the witch/witch.
“Pssst!” Ferguson wrote in the tweet. I didn’t ask permission to share this but thought you might be interested to know that right now, the most played first class in Diablo 4 is the Wizard/Witch!
“But you didn’t hear it from me. In case someone asks PR or marketing…”

Rod Fergusson June 9, 2023
This is as of June 9, but with more players expected this weekend, the data may change soon.
Diablo 4 launched with five classes: the aforementioned Witch/Witch, Barbarian, Necromancer, Rogue, and Druid.
What fuels the popularity of the witch/witch? It’s understandable that players will gravitate to a class that is generally considered to be more powerful than others, and magic fits the bill.
A magic user harnesses the elements of fire, lightning, and ice to deal massive damage at range, though has lower health and armor compared to other classes. (Check out IGN’s dedicated Diablo 4 sorcerer guide to learn more.)
But the Wizard is also one of the most fun classes to play in Diablo 4, with flashy spells and some great armor to track down (or buy, if you aren’t put off by Diablo 4’s costly microtransactions).
Diablo 4 is Blizzard’s fastest selling game of all time. It’s also a hit with critics, and overall, it did well with fans despite some server issues this week.
