Janine was feeling good about herself during Abbott ElementarySeason 2 premieres, and why wouldn’t it be? After all, the teacher scored quite the solstice: She got the Philadelphia Flyers Gretty mascot to agree to appear during the first week of school!
But sadly, Janine’s breakup with Tarek affected her more than she wanted to admit because she missed dates, and local celebrities showed up a week ago during Teachers Development Day. It was a problem for Janine, but it was a huge win for creator and star Quinta Bronson, who was very excited about the guest star during the Television Critics Association. Virtual press tour panel.
“He’s so special to us. He’s the biggest celebrity of all time,” Bronson was excited, before revealing that the mascot was supposed to make an appearance during last season.
“We were close to introducing Gritty to our show leader. Bronson shared.” So it was great to have this opportunity to involve him. The Gritty is vital to the special Philadelphia spirit of this show as the Eagles, cheese steak, pretzels, etc, so having it was a dream come true. I was on the moon. I was struck by the stars.”
Tyler James Williams—whose character Gregory didn’t initially get the allure of a mysterious mascot—called Gritti a “phenomenon that I feel relates to everyone on a human level, on a cellular level. It’s self-explanatory,” the actor said.
Lisa Ann Walter, who plays Melissa, added: “Gretty is undeniable. But I will say that personally he is better. Because his improvisation is excellent. Gritty is a comedic genius.”
