It’s not clear if there was any specific condition that caused the flare-up, but Butler was dealing with a knee problem throughout qualifying. He previously missed Game 5 of the Heat’s first round series against the Atlanta Hawks due to a knee infection. All in all, this has been an injury-packed season for Butler. He played only 57 matches due to a variety of issues including the ankle, tailbone, toes and shoulder.
After Miami’s 109-103 win, Heat coach Eric Spoelstra said Butler would not need to undergo an MRI after he missed the second half of Game Three. USA Today is a report Butler is not expected to miss any more time in the series as a result of knee inflammation.

He almost single-handedly won the first game of the series by placing 41 points, nine rebounds, five assists, four steals, and three blocks. In the playoffs, he averaged 29.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 2.2 steals per game, while shooting 54 percent from the field.
The Heat ended up surviving in Game 3 without Butler, but the fact that they wouldn’t be without him any more, bar any other kind of injury problem, is definitely a positive development for Miami.
