Tottenham player ratings: Emerson, Romero, Dier and Hogberg are great with Liverpool weak

Date:

Hugo Lloris

A header by Sessegion went wide of the goal and later in the first half he parried Diaz’s low shot from the edge of the penalty area. Nothing can be done about Diaz’s perverted target. His lack of chances to save says it all about his defence. 7

Christian Romero

Another great performance from the Argentine as few in the back could get past him. He won several headers and put his foot on the ball first while defending with the front foot. 9

Eric Dyer

He was tricky between Romero and Davies and he organized the defensive line superbly to prevent Liverpool from shooting the ball on goal. 9

Ben Davies

Some fuzzy passes early on but made some great flying blocks in the second half. Impressive display from the Welshman in the back of three protecting Loris the whole time. 9

Emerson Royal

He defended well throughout and popped to the left to start the move that led to Son’s goal. His best performance in a Tottenham shirt. 9

Rodrigo Bentancur

An early low shot was saved by Alisson but struggled in the first half. He improved in the second half, but it was unfortunate that his touch collided with Diaz’s shot into the net. 7

Pierre-Emile Hojberg

He made a superb interception six minutes later to start the Spurs break which led to a chance and picked Kane with a fine pass soon after for another chance. Send a low drive against the left shaft before the interval. He was brilliant on the night with the only sign against him with a late header back in place of goal or through Kane when Spurs could have snatched the win. 9

Ryan Sessegnon

He started the match tense but developed into the game and picked Son a perfectly low cross to score. A tactical discipline away from losing Salah once, but then taking a yellow card to stop him. Went out with 15 minutes to go. 7

Diane Kulusevsky

He showed some great touches down the right flank and in the first half he was Spurs’ main creative outlet as he looked to break down. Less offensive impact in the second half but he worked hard to try and give the guests an exit. 7

Harry King

He had an early opportunity in the penalty area that was held back by Henderson’s challenge but looked far from the pace in the first half. Nonetheless, he took the ball superbly in preparation for Son’s goal before fueling Sessegnon’s making for South Korea. 6

Son Heung Min

He worked hard the whole time and the pitch intrusion worried Liverpool and he was there with absolutely no control to hit Sessegnon’s low cross from six yards in the second half when Spurs needed him. 7

subs

Davinson Sanchez

He came in and was a good defender in the final stages of the game. 6

Harry Winks

Kolosiewski was substituted in the final minutes and it was supposed to have been a cross from Spurs’ goal for Hogberg. Unavailable

Stephen Bergwijn

He came for the son and made himself a nuisance. Unavailable
