Tracy Ellis Ross not the only one blackish The star who became passionate While filming the last season of ABC Comedy series.
Anderson opened up about filming the eighth and final season of the show, whose series finale airs on April 19, in an interview that aired on Monday’s episode of the series. The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
When asked if he was crying, Anderson replied, “I did. However, I didn’t cry as much as Tracy Ellis Ross. She cried every day.”
He said he didn’t expect it to be so emotional.
“Actually on the last day, I think I cried a little more. [Ross] She did, and I didn’t think she would hit me the way it did,” he said. “Because we had been working until that point—we knew what the last day was. I was preparing myself for that, and in the last scene on the last day when I lost him, it was just so unexpected for me. I didn’t expect to lose it the way I did, but it just shows how much I love what I do [and] I love doing that with the people I’ve done this with for the past eight years.”
DeGeneres noted that he should be “proud” to be part of a leading show that tackled many serious issues.
“We, we – from my partner in crime with this one who created the show, Kenya Barris, to our book to our directors for everyone,” he said.
Anderson also hopes to create the show and the void it filled when it debuted.
“When Kenya and I have been sitting down for nearly 10 years now, we looked at what was missing from the TV scene – he and I as viewers – and wanted to make an important show that made an impact,” he said. We took a page out of Norman Lear’s book with The Jeffersons, The Good Times, All in the Family, And we wanted to make a show like this — a show with social commentary, with unapologetic main characters — and I think we were successful.”
Anderson received seven Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Andre “Dre” Johnson. He has also been nominated for Best Comedy Series four times as Executive Producer.
Last week, fellow co-star Ross told DeGeneres that she was incredibly emotional about filming the final season.
“I knew the whole season was the end, so I was very present and kind of aware of the endings, even the things that bother me,” she said. “But last week I really said to myself, ‘Just let yourself feel what’s going on,’ and I had a lot of tears. And it was really nice being able to take the time. I was just talking to everyone and listening to their experience in the eight years and what about That was very special to them because we have been the same family for eight years, most of our crew are the same and everything is very emotional.”
