An investigation into manslaughter has been opened following the deaths of seven people on board the Bayezid yacht which sank off the coast of Sicily.
Italian prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio of the nearby town of Termini Imerese said his office had opened a preliminary investigation into manslaughter and the sinking of the ship due to negligence. No suspects have yet been identified.
At a press conference, prosecutors were asked about the responsibilities of the Bayzi crew given that all but one of its members survived.
Prosecutors said they were “focusing on this aspect in particular.”
They want to “discover how much they knew and how much all people were able to do.” [passengers] “They were warned.”
This comes as condolences have poured in for Hannah Lynch, who died with her father on the luxury yacht.
Sasha Murray, chief stewardess on the Baysian, which is believed to have been rescued from the yacht, described Hannah as a “jewel in a sea of stars”.
“What most people didn’t see was the extraordinarily strong, deep and loving relationship she had with her parents, whom she adored more than anything else,” she added.
Also killed on the boat were Morgan Stanley Chairman Jonathan Plummer and his wife Judith Plummer, and Clifford Chance attorney Christopher Morvillo and his wife Nida Morvillo.
Why did the boat sink?
The ship had been deemed “unsinkable” by its manufacturer – the Italian shipyard Perini Navi.
Mr. Cammarano said the Bayesian region was hit by a severe thunderstorm, which is a strong wind that descends from a thunderstorm and spreads quickly once it reaches the ground.
Officials will inspect safety equipment on the sunken ship.
Mr Cammarano was asked if there was a black box and if the hatches were left open.
He said investigators did not have precise information about the black box and that the first phase of the investigation would look into that.

Why weren’t nearby ships similarly affected?
Another yacht, Sir Robert BB, was about 150 to 200 metres from the Baysi when the rough weather struck.
Its crew helped rescue 15 people from the stricken ship.
Italian officials said they would look into how the explosion could have affected one vessel and not other nearby vessels.

How long will it take to restore the sailing vessel?
The director of maritime navigation in Western Sicily, Admiral Raffaele Macoda, could not confirm how long it would take to recover the wreckage of the sunken yacht.
“Everything depends on the availability of the owners and the time frame for the recovery of the wreck and of course all that must be presented to the port authorities and in parallel of course there will be the results of the investigation and only then will we be able to approve the operation,” he said.
“I can’t say, like some of the experts who have already talked about this, that it will take eight weeks.”
He explained that the owners would bear the full cost of recovering them, although he was unable to estimate the amount.

What is a bearish explosion?
Officials said the luxury yacht was hit by a violent storm, and Italian officials said they would look into how it affected one vessel and not other nearby vessels, according to a translation of the conference.
A downburst is an intense burst of wind at ground level emanating from the strong downdraft of a thunderstorm; the wind often blows radially from a point source, as opposed to the rotating winds associated with a tornado.
Blizzards usually last only a few minutes, and can be especially dangerous for aviation.
It has been blamed for a number of aviation accidents over the years, although the hazards are usually well predicted by meteorologists allowing pilots to avoid them.

A diver involved in the search for missing passengers at the Bayesian shipwreck has spoken of his team’s strong emotional reaction when Hannah Lynch’s body was recovered during the complex operation.
“Finding bodies underwater is our job, you get used to it and keep your emotions in check, but locating the girl was different – it was an emotional moment because she was so young,” said Fabio Paoletti, a member of the Italian firefighters’ diving team. Sunday Times.
“We entered a large room, but I couldn’t tell how big it was because I couldn’t see the walls. The room led to a staircase that led to a narrow corridor leading to the cabins,” he added.
“When we entered Bays, we had to check for any obstacles that could impede our exit, which was crucial since we only had a short time to get out.
“This means looking for a door or a cover that can be opened or a curtain that can block your way. You have to clear the way.”
