The Republican nominee held his first outdoor rally in North Carolina this Wednesday since escaping an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania on July 13.
More than a month after the assassination attempt on him in Pennsylvania, Donald Trump took part in his first outdoor rally in North Carolina this Wednesday, August 21. The event will be held under high security, with logistically reinforced measures to protect the Republican nominee.
Donald Trump took the stage shortly after 2pm local time (8pm French time), the stage where he spoke was surrounded by bulletproof glass panels.
Snipers and stacked containers
According to Associated PressContainers were also stacked near the scene to block the shooter, Donald Trump, from view. Snipers were also positioned on the roofs of surrounding buildings.
During his speech, Donald Trump may have given Secret Service agents in charge of protecting political figures a cold sweat. He interrupted himself and stepped off the stage to hug a woman in the audience.
The Secret Service recommended that Donald Trump stop attending outdoor public events after Thomas Matthew Crooks shot him multiple times from a nearby rooftop during a July 13 campaign rally in Butler.
The 78-year-old Republican candidate has held around ten meetings in halls, but confirmed that he has “not abandoned outdoor meetings”.
Donald Trump indicated on social networks at the end of July that the Secret Service “agreed to significantly strengthen its resources” in anticipation of external meetings. “They are capable of doing it,” he added.
The Obamas attacked your president
The billionaire is campaigning in several key states this week, aiming to stem the momentum gained by his rival, Kamala Harris. The Democratic vice president was officially sworn in Tuesday evening at the Democratic Convention in Chicago.
During his meeting, which was supposed to be devoted to national security issues, Donald Trump responded to the speeches made earlier in the day by Michelle and “Barack Hussein Obama” in support of Kamala Harris.
“He attacked your president and Michael,” the Republican told the crowd. “You know, they always say, ‘Sir, please stick to politics, it can’t be personal.’
