  • Moscow closed four major civilian airports in the wake of a Ukrainian drone attack on Friday.
  • This comes amid an increase in Ukrainian drone strikes on the Russian capital and other regions.
  • Meanwhile, a city in northern Ukraine is recovering after at least seven people were killed and 90 wounded by a Russian missile.

A Ukrainian drone strike on Friday caused Moscow to shut down all four of its main airports, CNN reports.

The affected airports provide domestic and international flights for civilians, CNN reports, While many small airfields and military airfields are still operating.

On Saturday, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Russia had intercepted one of the Ukrainian drones.

In a statement to CNN, the Russian Ministry of Defense said, “The drone was jammed and fell near the Putilkovo settlement near the Russian capital, causing no injuries or damage.”

The development comes as Ukraine increases the frequency of drone attacks across Russia, according to CNN. Ukrainian officials also claimed that their air force allegedly destroyed 15 Russian-made drones and carried out ten mass attacks, the outlet reported.

Meanwhile, Chernihiv – a city in northern Ukraine – suffers from a Russian missile strike on a theater and a university that kills at least seven people and injures 90 others, CNN reports. Among the dead was a six-year-old girl, and paramedics transported a 12-year-old girl in “serious condition” to Kiev for treatment, local officials told the outlet.
