John Goodman reflects on the Roseanne Barr controversy

Date:

John Goodman says he “felt bad” for his “Roseanne” co-star Roseanne Barr after she faced backlash over a racist tweet.

Several months later, Goodman, who reprized his role as Roseanne’s husband, said he was “surprised by the response” to the incident and “I know for a fact that it’s not racist.”

in New interview with VarietyGoodman said he did not regret defending Barr. He was at a press event at the time, he recalls, “and it turned offensive. And that made me very uncomfortable just because they attacked Roseanne.”

“I felt bad for her. I just feel terrible about the whole thing. We had a great time and I love her,” he said of his former co-stars.

When asked if he would ever work with Barr again, Goodman wasn’t sure.

“I just don’t know. I miss her,” he said. “I wish her well.”

Goodman went on to star in “The Conners,” the “Roseanne” movie that was developed after the controversy that saw Barr’s character killed off in an early episode.

Barr apologized and offered several different interpretations of the May 2018 tweet, which compared the Iranian-born Jarrett to the Muslim Brotherhood and the “Planet of the Apes”.

Earlier this year, she hosted a controversial Fox Nation comedy special called “Roseanne Barr: Cancel This!”
