The Courier Journal confirmed that another horse died on Saturday at Churchill Downs. This death came at the sixth in the lead-up to the 149th Kentucky Derby.
The Courier Journal confirmed that Chloe’s Dream was phased out after Race 2 – which was on the dirt track – and was eliminated due to a right knee injury.
Jockey Corey Lanerie was going around the first turn when Chloe’s Dream pulled away, about 23 seconds into the race.
According to the Equibase race report, “The seeding went wrong leaving the first turn, pulled up and disappeared.”

The death follows the deaths of five horses in six days around the hollow ground: one in the paddock, one during a race on a turf track, two after turf races, and one after morning training on a dirt track.
Two of those deaths were sudden deaths of horses owned by the same trainer, Safi Joseph Jr.
On Saturday, 31 racing horses were scratched at the track, including Forte, the 3-1 favorite for the Kentucky Derby.
