‘No update’ on Michigan running back injury Blake Corum

Date:

Ann Arbor Earlier in the season it became more apparent that Michigan’s offense was all about junior running back Blake Corum.

“We’re moving with Blake moving,” Michigan coach Mike Hart said in early October.

Corum leads the nation with 19 touchdowns, including 18 rushing. He is third in total yards with 1,457 and ranks fifth in rushing yards, averaging 132.5 yards per game, and his name is mentioned in the Heisman Trophy conversation.

But the biggest conversation now concerns his placement in the final regular season game at Ohio State on Saturday. Michigan and Ohio State are both 11-0 and playing for the Big Ten East Division title, a Big Ten tournament berth, and potentially a spot in the national semifinals.

Corum suffered a left knee injury late in the first half against Illinois last Saturday. Returning for the second half, he ran the ball once and then sat out the rest of the game.

Coach Jim Harbaugh said there was “no update” on injured players, including Corum.

Will Quorum be available on Saturday?

“No update,” Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday at his weekly news conference.

The Corum Company was in Ypsilanti Sunday for the second year in a row delivering Thanksgiving turkeys to two underserved communities. Pay for 150 turkeys with money earned from Name, Image and Likeness opportunities.

He spoke briefly about his donation but was asked about his knee and gave a vague answer.

“It’s good,” Corum told the Detroit News Sunday. My knee is good. I’ll be fine. I’ll be back later.”

Hypothetically, Ryan Hayes was asked what kind of impact it would have on the offense if Corum was not available. Donovan Edwards didn’t play running back last week after missing most of the previous game with an undisclosed injury.

“Well, I think it obviously has an effect,” Hayes said. “He’s probably one of the best—if not the best—players in the country. Losing Blake is great for us. But, I think we had a lot of guys going forward, rallying, rallying around him, and I mean, we ended up finding a way to win.” , which is great for us.

Hayes said he was so confident of the crime that he didn’t even know Corum’s status.

“Well, I think we planned it,” Hayes said. “He’s a great player, but I think everyone else will step up with him and I think we’re up to the challenge and we’ll do it.”
