Longtime Ludacris manager Chaka Zulu has been arrested for murder

Chaka Zulu, the longtime manager of rapper Ludacris, has been arrested on multiple charges, including murder, according to police reports.

Zulu, 52, whose real name is Ahmed Obafemi, was one of three shots on June 26 in a shopping center parking lot outside Buckhead Restaurant.

The shooting killed Artis Benton, 23, and another hospitalized.

Police said the shooting was the result of fighting between Zulu and others.

Atlanta police charged Zulu of murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and minor battery on Tuesday.

The Zulu turned himself in to the authorities on Tuesday and was able to. Send a $200,000 bond the same day.

Zulu’s lawyer confirmed to the press in a statement that his client was using self-defense while attacking him.

It was not clear when the Zulu would appear in court.

Zulu lawyer Gabi Banks said in a statement that Zulu was jumped by four individuals and was protecting himself after suspects repeatedly attacked him while he was in a “unarmed position.”

The Artis-Benton family wants answers about the 23-year-old’s death.

“We just want justice for Artez,” said Artesia Benton, the older sister of Artis. The Atlanta Constitution Journal.

The Zulu is known throughout Atlanta for his involvement in the community.

Back in January, the Atlanta Hawks honored the Zulu for their call to mentor and serve young artists in Atlanta.

Zulu founded the independent record label Disturbing Tha Peace Records in 1998 with his brother Jeff Dixon and Christopher “Ludacris” Bridges.

The goal of the record company was to give Atlanta musicians opportunities to get their name out there and not have to rely on major record label deals.
