With two outs at the top of the fourth inning and runners on the first and second base for Tampa Bay Rays, a fly ball was moved to the left field towards the rotten line and Hicks was tracking it. He should have played the play, but the ball bounced off his glove and hit the warning lane.

But Hicks was the only one in the building who didn’t realize he had touched the ball in a fair area. Instead, he just put his hands on his hips and put his head down until he heard a loud scream that the ball was fair.

Because of this movement, two rounds were scored to make the score 3-0 instead of leaving the game 1-0.

If that wasn’t enough, the next hitter is Randy Arosarina who put the ball into the left court. While this play was much more difficult due to an exit speed of over 100mph, Hicks misread it completely and the ball went over his head. He scored another game to make it 4-0.

Yankee fans went straight to the boos and when the top of the fifth inning came, Estefan Floreal jogged to the left to replace Hicks. It was an unforgivable play and Boone made it clear when Floreal took his place.

It’s also worth noting that several Yankees have been injured, so Hicks’ Slim’s recall of putting on a player who has only had a cup of coffee in the major leagues this season is another sign that the veteran hitter has been pulled over for poor play.
