John Daniels was kicked out by the Rangers

Date:

ARLINGTON – Rangers parted ways with chief baseball operations John Daniels on Wednesday, effective immediately.

The club said in a press release that general manager Chris Young will inherit all duties, including overseeing all aspects of Rangers’ baseball operations division. This move comes just two days after Texas Director Chris Woodward has been relieved of his duties 51-63 after the start of the season.

Daniels joined Rangers’ baseball operations division in 2002 and was named general manager of the team on October 4, 2005. He added the title of Chief Baseball Operations in March 2013.

Daniels oversaw the most successful stretch in franchise history, which included MLS logos in 2010 and 11, as well as additional AL West titles in 15 and 16. However, Rangers are in the midst of their sixth consecutive losing season, including last place In the years 20 and 21.

“John’s accomplishments during his 17 years of managing our baseball operations division have been numerous,” said Ray Davis, majority owner of Rangers. “He and his crew compiled the best teams in the history of this franchise that resulted in five playoff games and two MLS titles between 2010 and 2016. His impact on the growth of our players and exploration and analysis groups has been tremendous. John has always kept the best interests of Rangers in mind both inside and outside the stadium and in the community.

Young was appointed in December 2020 as General Manager to work alongside Daniels. The two have worked hand in hand over the past year and a half to lead the Rangers front office.

“Chris Young is one of the company’s senior young baseball executives, and in his 21 months in the business, he has brought welcoming energy and new ideas to the organization,” Davis said. “I am confident in Chris’ ability to lead our baseball operations with the goal of producing a consistent winner on the field.”
