Dodgers trade Chris Martin from the Cubs

Date:

The Dodgers got the right mitten Chris Martin from Cubs for companion man Zach McKinstry.

The 36-year-old Martin won the World Championship title with the Braves in 2021, before signing a one-year contract with Chicago. He has a 4.31 ERA over the 31 1/3 round this season, albeit with a 40 to 4K/BB ratio.

Manager Dave Roberts said before Saturday’s game against the Rockies at Coors Field that Martin will be joining the Dodgers in Denver, and that he will be activated on Sunday.

He’s a loyal, neutral, and has really good stuff,” Roberts said. “I think it would fit in really well with our people. I think we kind of use it — I don’t want to limit leverage yet, but we think all sides matter.

“But he’s a guy who’s just a thrower, punching players and hitting the ground, so we’re excited to have him.”

Martin has a 4.10 ERA career over seven seasons with the Braves, Cups, Rockies, Yankees and Rangers. It will save the Bulls depth for the Dodgers as they wait for Brusdar Graterol, Blake Treinen, Tommy Kahnle, Victor González and Danny Duffy to return from the injured list.

To get Martin, the Dodgers parted with McKinstry, who improbably reached the Majors after being selected in the 33rd round of the 2016 MLB Draft by Central Michigan University. The 27-year-old is a career .210/.266/.403 hitter with eight Homers eyebrows over 193 board appearances.
