In Yahidnev, Ukraine, 300 residents were locked up in a village school for 26 days. They were guarded by Russian soldiers and held hostage without being able to leave.

Yahidne (Ukraine) is located two hours from kyiv (Ukraine). On Monday, June 20, city dwellers return to school on March 4 with small groups of Russian soldiers. “We were their hostages, human shields, so our army did not attack them.”, Testifies music teacher Valentina Danilova. In the basement of the building, there was a crowd of 300 people and the daylight could only be seen if the Russian soldiers accepted it.

At the entrance to the cellar, a resident wrote down the names of each day, as well as the names of ten elderly people who had died of suffocation. “We were suffocating and they could not breathe.”, Says Valentyna Shylo, who lives in Yahidne (Ukraine). They were imprisoned for 26 days. Russian troops leave the city on March 31. “They were terrible soldiers, we tried to help each other, we shared everything, drugs, we supported each other as much as we could.”Ivan Polgui, the school’s caretaker, recalls.
